WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Police in D.C. have arrested a man for an assault that took place in Northeast in May.

Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers responded to the 3900 block of Minnesota Ave. NE around 8:55 p.m. for a reported stabbing.

Police learned that several suspects had physically assaulted a man. During that time, one of the suspects stabbed the man. After the assault, all of the suspects escaped.

DC Fire and EMS transported the man to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

On Aug. 1, officers arrested 41-year-old Cornell Shumate of Northeast, D.C. Shumate is facing a charge for assault with significant bodily injury (knife).
