LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Laredo Sector Border Patrol is releasing data on how many individuals attempt to cross the river illegally but decide against it and are turned back into Mexico.
The agency recorded a total of 432 “turnbacks” in the past week, noting that the Border Patrol’s presence along the Rio Grande has deterred people from entering the U.S. through the river.
In July, U.S. Customs reported fewer than 25,000 illegal encounters, marking the lowest number of illegal crossings ever recorded by the department.
