BOISE, Idaho — State officials are warning the public after detecting West Nile virus in mosquitoes collected in Elmore County, prompting increased monitoring.
Elmore County Pest Abatement confirmed the positive test on Monday, Aug. 18, from a mosquito sample collected in a surveillance trap within the Three Island Crossing State Park, in Glenns Ferry.
The detection marks the first positive sample from the park in 2025. However, officials said two additional locations in Glenns Ferry have also tested positive for the virus this season.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reported that the findings are part of a broader West Nile virus activity across seven southern Idaho counties and neighboring Malheur County, Oregon.
