ALLOUEZ, Wis. (WBAY) - The Village of Allouez still awaits a timeline to close Green Bay Correctional Institution after Governor Tony Evers issued a partial veto in the biennial budget to remove the 2029 deadline.
Tuesday night, three state legislators discussed their efforts moving forward to push the closure of GBCI across the finish line.
Discussions are evolving once again between state representatives and the Village of Allouez as Green Bay Correctional Institution remains without a closure date.
Republican assembly members David Steffen and Benjamin Franklin, as well as democrat state Senator Jamie Wall, once again expressed bipartisan support of closing the 127-year-old facility in a timely manner.
