TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas — As Travis County commissioners discuss increasing property taxes , residents are intensifying calls to end a multimillion-dollar tax rebate agreement with Tesla, one of the area’s largest employers.
During a recent Travis County commissioners meeting, local residents voiced frustration over the deal, which was approved in 2020 and was intended to incentivize Tesla.
Critics said the county should end the deal in hopes that Tesla paying its fair share of taxes will help county funding issues.
“I think we can all agree that now is not the time to hand out millions in tax breaks to billionaires and their $1 trillion-plus corporations,” said resident Ethan McBride during public comment.
Others expressed concern about the impact on regular taxpayers.
“The idea that
