DETROIT — Gleyber Torres’ 500th career RBI may not have come off his bat, but it secured a crucial victory for the Detroit Tigers Tuesday night.

After going to extra innings with the Houston Astros tied at zero, the Tigers loaded up the bases with two outs to put the weight of the result on Torres’ shoulders.

The most patient hitter for Detroit this year didn’t jump at anything Houston reliever Kaleb Ort had to offer and worked him for a full-count walk-off walk.

“The moment is never too big for him. Every single time he’s up there you know you’re getting an amazingly quality at-bat,” outfielder Kerry Carpenter said. “It’s pretty awesome to watch him. Glad I got to watch him from the on-deck circle.”
