SHELBY, N.C. — Behind a dominant pitching performance from Charlie Hogan and a late power surge, Chesapeake (Va.) Post 280 made history Tuesday night by winning the 98th American Legion World Series, defeating League City (Tex.) Post 554, 5-0.
Hogan was nearly untouchable, allowing just four hits in 6 1/3 innings before handing the ball to Ty Wood, who recorded the final two outs to seal the victory. The championship is the first ever for Post 280 and just the second for a Virginia team in ALWS history. Midlothian Post 186 last brought the title home in 1985.
