Multiple agencies were responding to a wildfire about 20 miles south of Big Sky on Tuesday night.
The West Fork Fire was reported just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, and was estimated at about 50 acres at 7:30 p.m. The fire is burning in the south Madison Range on the Custer Gallatin National Forest, just north of the Beaver Creek Forest Service Cabin.
A large column of smoke was visible from Big Sky and West Yellowstone, according to the release, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
As of Tuesday night, the fire did not pose a threat to Big Sky, the release states.
