SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

A controversial Natomas housing project will have to wait—Sacramento County Supervisors postponed the vote just a day before the meeting.

The Upper Westside development project in Natomas plans to rezone over 2,000 acres of farmland to build nearly 10,000 homes.

The project site is located west of Interstate 80, north and east of Garden Highway, and south of the drainage canal.

Tuesday night, hundreds of residents rallied against the proposal in Natomas.

Josh Harmatz, one of the organizers, said their key concerns are about infrastructure funding and environmental impact.

"I was ecstatic when I heard it got postponed,” said Harmatz. “Either one, they don't have the votes for it to pass, or two, they're listening to the community."
