Question: My strawberry plants have lost productivity since I planted them three years ago. The leaves are big and healthy, but the fruit is smaller and yields have been less this year. Is it time to replant with new plants, or is there some way to rejuvenate my current plants?
Answer: Strawberry plants produce the most and best fruit when they are young and vigorous. Once the plants reach about three years of age, they produce less fruit. Plants also become so crowded with runner plants that they do not get enough light for the best fruit production. Ideal spacing for strawberry plants is 6 to 12 inches apart.
