This Saturday, people will converge on downtown Marion for the 2025 WNC Bigfoot Festival.

Visitors from all over have come to Marion to learn more about the legendary creature known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch and enjoy the festivities.

What some people may not know is the man chiefly responsible for the festival has not spoken at the festival since 2019. Now, after years fighting cancer, John Bruner will return to speak at the festival once again.

In 2018, Bruner, the leader of the local Bigfoot 911 group, met with local officials, the Marion Business Association and tourism promoters to create the WNC Bigfoot Festival. Started in 2014, Bigfoot 911 is a group of investigators who have trekked through the woods and around the waterways of McDowell County in search of the elusive Bigfoot.
