Whenever Brian Kelly talks about the LSU defense this year, he touts its improved depth.
He can see it in the defensive line rotations and position battles in the secondary. LSU has options that it didn’t have before, creating competition in spots where the team used to be thin.
“I certainly love the depth that we really haven’t had over the first three years,” Kelly said.
With the improvements to the roster, the LSU defense has impressed throughout preseason practice. It has made it difficult for the offense to move the ball, and while that could be indicative of an offensive issue, there is optimism about the defense going into the second season under defensive coordinator Blake Baker.
