MCCOOK, Neb. -- The Trump administration plans to build a new immigrant detention facility in McCook and house migrants in several county jails as part of an effort to expand capacity.
According to planning documents reviewed by the Washington Post , U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to open a 300-bed facility near the Work Ethic Camp in Red Willow County by as early as next month.
The proposed facility was designated as a "priority," according to the Post, and would be built and operated through an Intergovernmental Support Agreement, which allows the military to partner with state and local governments.
Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen is expected to announce plans for the facility Tuesday, according to several sources.
The proposed detention center is part of ICE's plan to op
