The Wake Forest run at the Winston-Salem Open ended after midnight when ATP rookie Stefan Dostanic lost in a three-set match to Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in the second round.

Dostanic, who played on Wake Forest’s NCAA championship team in the spring, was making his debut in a main ATP draw this week. He gave the defending champion a battle at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.

Sonego, who is the fifth seed, won 6-3, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3) in a match that ended around 12:30 on Wednesday morning at the Stadium Court.

The match took just under three hours to compete as Dostanic kept fighting back.

Dostanic, the NCAA Tournament MVP for the Demon Deacons this past spring, saved three match points in the third set to force the tiebreaker.
