North Carolina Auditor Dave Boliek on Tuesday called on the State Board of Education and Local Government Commission to initiate an independent review of “internal control procedures” at the embattled Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
Boliek noted that under state law, the agencies are authorized to take such a step when local school districts fail to uncover significant management failures on their own.
A report released by Boliek’s office Thursday detailed years of financial mismanagement including failure to address issues raised in annual audits by firms hired by the district.
