SEVIER CO., Tenn. (WSMV) - An injured hiker was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville after he was rescued from a remote area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Tuesday evening.

A flight crew with the Tennessee National Guard’s 1-230th Assault Helicopter Battalion responded to Snake Den Ridge Trail around 7 p.m. where the man had been hiking.

Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.

The area is a remote part of the park, east of Gatlinburg.

“They located the injured hiker, performed a medical assessment and first aid, and hoisted him into the aircraft,” the Tennessee National Guard said.

The TNG stated that they were able to recover the man and transport him to the hospital in under an hour and a half.
