D.C. police announced a temporary curfew zone along the U Street corridor starting Thursday and lasting through the weekend to keep young people from gathering in the city at night.

The curfew zone covers an area between 15th Street and 7th Street/Georgia Avenue Northwest.

Starting Thursday, people aged 17 and younger are not allowed to gather in a group of nine or more within the U Street curfew zone, starting at 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. Some activities are exempt from the curfew.

This weekend's curfew ends on Sunday. The citywide curfew, which lasts until Aug. 31, starts at 11 p.m. and ends at 6 a.m. the next morning for anyone under the age of 18.
