A 44-year-old man from Ontario has been charged with assault following a violent encounter with an intruder in his apartment. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Monday in Lindsay, Ontario, when the homeowner discovered a 41-year-old man inside his Kent Street residence.

According to Kawartha Lakes Police, the two men engaged in an altercation that resulted in the intruder sustaining serious, life-threatening injuries. The intruder, who was already wanted by police for unrelated offenses, was transported to Ross Memorial Hospital. He was later airlifted to a hospital in Toronto for further treatment.

Once he is discharged from the hospital, the intruder will face multiple charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, break and enter with intent to commit theft, mischief under $5,000, and failing to comply with a probation order. He is expected to remain in custody until a bail hearing.

The homeowner was also arrested during the incident and has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. He has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
