OTTAWA — Elizabeth May, the leader of the Green Party, announced she will not lead the party in the upcoming federal election. In a recent email to party members, May confirmed her intention to remain as a Member of Parliament and as party leader until a successor is chosen.

May expressed her desire to expand the party's presence in Parliament before her departure. She emphasized the importance of addressing critical issues such as the climate crisis, affordability, and promoting justice and peace in areas affected by conflict.

In her communication, May indicated that party members would soon receive information regarding a leadership review and the process for participating in the vote. She stated, "I plan to step down once the new leader, or co-leaders, are elected."

Currently, May is the only Green MP in the House of Commons, following the party's performance in the last federal election, where it secured just one seat. May's decision marks a significant moment for the Green Party as it prepares for future leadership and electoral challenges.
