Add this to the list of things you didn’t know you needed to worry about: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning people not to eat certain frozen shrimp from Walmart due to potential radioactive contamination. Excuse me?
According to the FDA , a shipment of frozen breaded shrimp processed by the Indonesian supplier BMS Foods tested positive for cesium-137, a radioactive isotope. The good news is that the FDA says that the contaminated shrimp never reached stores in the States. However, out of caution, the agency is warning the public not to eat certain bags of Great Value–brand frozen shrimp — sold at Walmart in at least 13 states — noting that it “appears to have been prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby it may have become contaminated.”
