CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The NC Department of Agriculture has revoked the license of a Charlotte-based pet store, citing repeated and severe violations of state animal welfare laws.

According to the notice, Happy Puppy Universe, located at 10901 University City Blvd, was found to be in serious violation of the North Carolina Animal Welfare Act.

State officials said the store’s actions put both the animals and public health at risk.

Due to the severity of the violations, the pet shop’s license was revoked immediately. The store was ordered to cease all operations and find safe accommodations for the animals currently in its care. They had 14 days to transfer the animals to licensed shelters, other compliant pet shops, or approved rescue organizations, officials said.
