AURORA | Aurora Animal Control officials say five rabbits have been shot with blow darts in the city, and officials are searching for the culprit.

“Just because an animal isn’t a traditional pet doesn’t mean we won’t look out for their well-being,” Animal Control Officer Lucas Barr said in a statement.

Since July 15, five rabbits were reported injured, and one died, all near the intersection of East Glasgow Place and South White Crow Way, in the Southlands area.

“Criminal charges of animal cruelty are possible,” Barr said. “If a suspect is found and convicted, they could be subject to fines and/or jail time.”

The fifth incident was reported Aug. 19 in the same area, according to city officials.
