COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Authorities are investigating after an infant died at a Columbia hotel.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office said the seven-month-old was taken to a hospital from the Days Inn on Bush River Road on Tuesday.

WIS reached out to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, which said investigators responded to a hospital after the child was pronounced dead. They later learned the infant was taken there from the Days Inn, where more investigators arrived to process the scene.

RCSD noted the case is not being investigated as a homicide, and it’s believed the child suffered some sort of medical emergency.

An investigation is ongoing.
