COLUMBUS — Former state Rep. Adam Miller (D., Columbus) looked up from the statehouse at the tower housing Gov. Mike DeWine’s offices to urge him to recall the Ohio National Guard from its role in a federal crackdown on crime in the nation’s capital.

“There is no immediate response ... because it’s a fake emergency,” Mr. Miller said as he joined about 30 people on the statehouse steps.

“Shame on our chain of command for not asking the questions, for not doing their independent due diligence, and for pulling our service members out of existing training and sending them into a dangerous situation,” he said.

Mr. Miller, a retired Army JAG colonel, chaired the Ohio Legislative Veterans Caucus, served as senior Pentagon domestic ops judge advocate general, and served two combat tours in Afgh
