A new poll of Virginians who say they’re likely to vote this year shows Democrat Abigail Spanberger with a definitive lead over Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, the Republican nominee for governor.
But voters’ preferences for lieutenant governor and attorney general are within the poll’s margin of error, which means it can’t say any candidate has a definitive lead at this point.
The new Roanoke College poll shows Spanberger winning the support of 46% of likely voters with 39% favoring Earle-Sears, while 14% say they’re undecided.
The sample of 602 voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.39 percentage points, which suggests Spanberger’s current margin of support is somewhere between 11 and three percentage points.
