A new analysis reveals the Democratic Party has shed millions of voters since 2020, struggling to attract key demographics like young men.
A new analysis of voter registration data by The New York Times paints a stark picture for the Democratic Party, which has seen a significant decline in registered voters since the 2020 election cycle.
According to the report, the party lost approximately 2.1 million registered voters between the 2020 and 2024 elections in the 30 states and Washington, D.C., that allow voters to register with a political party. Over the same period, the Republican Party gained 2.4 million registered voters.
The shift is particularly pronounced among men and younger Americans. In 2020, nearly 49% of men newly registering with a major party chose the Democratic Party.
