OTTAWA — The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has submitted new proposals to Canada Post, seeking higher wages than those offered by the Crown corporation. The union resumed negotiations with Canada Post this morning, stating that the new offers address the needs of postal workers.

The latest proposals include a nine percent wage increase in the first year of the agreement, followed by a four percent increase in the second year. In the third and fourth years, workers would see raises of three percent each year. This new offer is an improvement over Canada Post's previous proposal, which included a total wage increase of approximately 13 percent over four years.

Earlier this month, unionized workers voted against Canada Post's last offer. The union's new proposal for its urban unit also suggests adding part-time workers and implementing weekend parcel delivery, although there are some limitations on these provisions.

The ongoing negotiations reflect the union's efforts to secure better compensation and working conditions for its members.
