As the number of spayed and neutered animals entering shelters drops, the Humane Society of Utah is offering low-cost procedures in several clinics, including the one in St. George.
Shelter Animals Count released a report stating that the number of animals entering shelters already spayed or neutered has dropped over the last five years, according to a news release from the Humane Society.
"In 2023, only 22.3% of dogs and 22% of cats arrived at shelters already altered, down nearly 11 percent and six percent since 2019, respectively," the release states. "HSU has seen similar numbers in the animals surrendered and an increase in puppies and kittens being surrendered to the Pet Resource Center in Murray."
