CHARLES TOWN – Amanda Shires is an artist who has charted her own course. Born in Lubbock, Texas, and raised in Mineral Wells, she picked up the fiddle as a teenager—and by age 15, she was already playing with the legendary Texas Playboys. That early experience helped develop the foundation of her career.
Shires has played many roles in the Americana world including acclaimed solo artist, member of Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit and co-founder of the all-female supergroup The Highwomen alongside Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby. Her work blends poetic songwriting with fearless self-expression, as she shared in a recent interview with The Journal of her passion for music and love for words.
