ATLANTA — The 30 best golfers from this year's PGA Tour season will tee it up on Thursday morning at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta looking to win the league's season-long race for the FedEx Cup.
But when this year's cream of the crop get the scoring started, it will look different than it has for the past six years at the Tour Championship .
Elimination of starting strokes
Golf fans may recall that players have started with strokes based on their play over the course of the whole season over the past few Tour Championship tournaments. The "starting strokes" format, which was instituted in 2019, was officially eliminated by the PGA Tour starting this year.
It gave FedEx Cup season-long points leaders a head start in the scoring when the first round of the Tour Championship teed off.
