PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Newly obtained records show the state Department of Child Safety received calls dating back a decade regarding the abuse of a northern Arizona girl , leading up to her death.
Rebekah Baptiste, 10, died on July 30, three days after being found unconscious in the Holbrook area. Bodycam video shows Rebekah’s father, Richard Baptiste, and his girlfriend, Anicia Woods , telling officers that a neighbor found the young girl unconscious in a wash.
However, at Empower College Prep , where Rebekah and her brothers attended school, staff reported concerns to DCS at least 12 times . Reports included suspected abuse and neglect.
In a statement to Arizona’s Family, a DCS spokesperson detailed 12 cases the department received.
