Clark County and the Columbia River Gorge along the state Highway 14 corridor will be under an extreme heat watch starting Friday morning that could continue into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Portland.

The heat watch is expected through late Sunday night, with dangerously hot conditions ranging from 95 to 100 degrees. But there is a 10 to 20 percent chance that high temperatures could continue into Tuesday.

“A two- to three-day heat event is typical, a heat event for four or more days is rare,” said Colby Neuman, a meteorologist for the weather service’s Portland office.

In Vancouver, the high is forecast to be 97 degrees on Friday and Saturday and 94 degrees on Sunday. Overnight temperatures are expected to be in the mid- to high 60s.
