Tulane’s Jack Tchienchou did not start a single game last season.

He sure finished plenty of them, though.

After ranking fourth on the team with 50 tackles while backing up Jalen Geiger at free safety, he hopes to build on that breakthrough performance with even bigger numbers as a redshirt sophomore. Geiger graduated, and Tchienchou has no one in front of him.

“I’m coming into it with the same approach,” he said. “We’ve got pretty good depth in the safety room, but I’m ready to start and be the first one on the field and get the tone set for sure.”

At 5-foot-10, 181 pounds, Tchienchou is not imposing until the ball is snapped. That may be one reason he missed out on preseason All-American Conference honors several of his teammates with lesser stats received from various outlets. But
