COALINGA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A semi-truck was stopped for what California Highway Patrol Coalinga officers say was driving "well above" the speed limit for commercial vehicles.

During a commercial vehicle enforcement, CHP said a truck, tractor and trailer combination was recently seen going 70 mph, which is above the 55 mph speed limit for commercial vehicles.

CHP said that during the stop, officers also confirmed the truck had expired registration for more than six months with no renewal in progress.

The truck was towed because its registration had expired for over a year. CHP said that the driver received citations for both speeding and operating the vehicle without a valid registration.

The registered owner must complete registration with the DMV before the vehicle can be released
