TELLICO VILLAGE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Wednesday, the board for Tellico Areas Service System voted to remove fluoride from the system’s water supply.

This came after a public meeting that gave citizens a chance to voice their thoughts on the topic, with many supporting and many against the idea of removing fluoriode.

One of the main concerns for removing fluoride was the effect it would have on those who do not have as much access to healthcare.

“If we remove this as a public health intervention, it’s going to negatively impact the most under-served populations, those who are uninsured, those who have TennCare but can’t find a provider who accepts that,” said Kelly Bailey, who is the regional dental director for the Tennessee Department of Health.
