BARABOO, Wis. (WMTV) - The Portage Police Department officer accused of child abuse made his first court appearance Wednesday in Sauk County.

Cameron Coronado appeared virtually from the Sauk County Jail.

Sauk County Judge Michael Screnock agreed with the prosecution in setting a $10,000 cash bond for Coronado.

Judge Screnock said bail is necessary because of concerns related to Coronado’s willingness to face the charges, protecting members of the community and intimidation of witnesses.

The person representing Coronado requested a signature bond or no more than $1,000, saying he has no prior criminal history or reason to believe he would not show up for court. The defense also said Coronado has respect for law enforcement officials, because he is one.
