HERRIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- UPDATE: August 20, 2:52 p.m. -- One person was taken into custody.

ORIGINAL: August 20, 2:19 p.m. -- Authorities are surrounding a home in Herrin on Wednesday afternoon.

Law enforcement, armed with guns, were seen on the outside of a home in the 300-block of South 17th Street at around 2 p.m. on August 20.

Items were seen being thrown from a front window of a home with officers standing behind vehicles on the street.

Police have a section of S. 17th Street blocked off while the incident is ongoing.
