A Honduran immigrant and local businessman, who was living in Rhinebeck before being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has been transferred from federal custody in Orange County to Louisiana, according to ICE records.

Gerson Josué Santamaría Turcios, 23, had until midnight Friday, Aug. 1, to appeal his case to an appellate court. The case was closed on July 30, according to a civil judgement issued by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

In late July, Judge Ronnie Abrams in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York had denied a request for a stay of deportation, leaving in place a weeklong pause in deportation proceedings.
