CHARLESTON — A sports bar and restaurant neighboring a local music venue is closing its doors at the end of the month, even amid positive reviews from customers.

Cleats owner Jeremiah Schenzel said the plan is to wind down operations by Aug. 31 or until the propane tanks run out of gas.

"We're hedging our bets," Schenzel told The Post and Courier Aug. 20.

Since opening the casual sandwich-and-smoked-sausage eatery in January 2024, Schenzel said he and his wife, Jillian, have received "99.9 percent" positive feedback for the food and the atmosphere. Closing this month is just the right business move, as the couple looks to put all their ventures under one umbrella, he said.
