Montana officials on Wednesday decided to put the brakes on plans for a much-needed behavioral health facility currently anticipated for the Billings region.

The Montana Board of Investments, which is taking the lead on finding a site location and the build-out of the facility, has determined it needs more clarity from the Legislature and Gov. Greg Gianforte's administration regarding what type of facility they have envisioned and who would be served there.

Board of Investments Executive Director Dan Villa told members during Wednesday's meeting the two branches have offered conflicting opinions to the board about managing the project. Until those opinions are aligned, Villa recommended the board suspend actions on the project.
