TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) --

Troy Police continue to investigate after an explosion occurred in front of a home on O’Neil Street earlier this week. According to a statement released by the Troy Police Department, they believe it was an improperly disposed firework that exploded, causing injuries to two children aged 5 and 9. The 5 year old sustained minor lacerations and was treated and released from a local hospital. The 9 year old sustained a serious injury to her leg and is now in stable condition

According to neighbors the family had been in the process of moving into the home, and renovating the interior, when the incident occurred. At this time exactly what caused the explosion remains unknown. However the incident has sparked a conversation of firework safety within the community.
