Auburn University announced this week it will claim seven additional football national championships, expanding the program’s recognized total to nine and formally acknowledging the undefeated 2004 team.

While the claim gives Auburn now nine titles and numerous more SEC titles, the significant majority of them are from the last century and out of the memories of most fans.

The most significant one based on recent memory though was the undefeated 2004 team who was left out of the national title game despite their incredible resume which included five top-15 wins.
