Eugene and Springfield residents can expect extreme heat and dry conditions, starting with a fire weather watch on Aug. 21, followed by an extreme heat watch Aug. 22 through Aug. 24.
Eugene area residents can expect extreme heat starting Aug. 21 due to a high-pressure system and elevated fire conditions, said Treena Jensen, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Portland.
"There's a potential to have either a three-day or five-day period of extreme heat where temperatures in Eugene will be at, near or slightly above 95 degrees," Jensen said.
"Before the heat on Thursday, north winds will increase in the Willamette Valley and the relative humidity will be really low," she said. "So we're looking at a period of dry conditions and not strong winds, but enough wind where there'
