ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (WCJB) - The Florida Board of Education voted on Wednesday to find that the Alachua County School Board violated the First Amendment rights of a parent during a contentious school board meeting on July 31 .

The school board will be required to demonstrate to the state how it intends to correct the “failures” to uphold the First Amendment during public comment at school board meetings.

Public comment policies will be required to be updated, training will be provided to each school board member, and the board will be monitored by the state for the entire 2025-26 Academic year.
