More than 44,000 people have signed a petition urging France to stop lending the Bayeux Tapestry to Britain . The French petition has slammed the plan to move it to the British Museum because the medieval artwork is thought to be so fragile. ‌

The petition argues that President Emmanuel Macron has threatened the existence of the 11th century chronicle of the Norman invasion by agreeing to the loan last month. It was set up Didier Rykner, an outspoken art historian who runs the website La Tribune de l’Art. ‌
