WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – State law enforcement agents are investigating after a Williamsburg County inmate died early Wednesday morning.

Correction officers at the Williamsburg County Detention Center found an inmate needing medical attention around 3:43 a.m., according to the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Staff rendered aid before EMS arrived and took the inmate to MUSC Black River Medical Center. The inmate ultimately died at the hospital.

The State Law Enforcement Division was requested to investigate by the sheriff’s office.

An investigation is ongoing.
