Fort Wayne’s downtown designated outdoor refreshment area could soon encompass most of downtown, including Electric Works and along the riverfront.

City Council gave its initial approval Tuesday to terminate the designated outdoor refreshment area, also known as DORA, at Electric Works and expand the downtown DORA to make one large designated area. It would run from Headwaters Park to Electric Works, a 1 1/2-mile walk.

The designated areas allow adults 21 and older to consume alcoholic beverages from labeled cups sold by approved businesses and venues outside within boundaries marked by signage.

Andrea Robinson, economic development administrator, said the idea is to make those areas easier to navigate.
