A motorcyclist died Wednesday after crashing into trees in northeast Allen County, police said.

Officers were called to the 7400 block of Milan Center Road north of Doty Road, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

A bystander initially performed CPR on the male driver, and officer took over after arriving. The life-saving attempts were unsuccessful.

The preliminary investigation shows a motorcycle was speeding north on Milan Center and the driver lost control, the news release said. The motorcycle drove off the east side of the road and struck a mailbox and several trees.

The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet, the news release said.

The victim is expected to be identified by the Allen County Coroner’s Office after an autopsy
