A Palestinian prisoner who was released as part of an Israel-Hamas prisoner-hostage exchange in February is scheduled to speak at the Detroit People's Conference for Palestine next week, sparking concerns from some Jewish Americans who consider him a terrorist.

Conference organizers announced Monday that attendees at the Aug. 29-31 event will "hear directly about the prisoners' struggle in Zionist prisons from freed prisoner, Hossam Shaheen," according to a post uploaded to the conference's Instagram page.

The conference Instagram post described Shaheen as a Palestinian writer "who is known for capturing the complexities of life in captivity" and was sentenced to 27 years in prison in 2004 by Israeli authorities. Shaheen was imprisoned for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder
