JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - As beef prices hit record highs, Iowa cattle farmers are reaping the benefits. But many, like Steve Swenka, are wondering how long this boom will last.

“All of us producers are really enjoying the environment that we’re in, we’re really capitalizing on these high prices, but there’s also a little bit of doubt in us, waiting for that bubble to burst,” said Johnson County Farmer Steve Swenka.

The average price of a pound of ground beef was more than $6 in June, up nearly 12% from a year ago, according to US Bureau of Labor statistics.

It’s all a result of current supply and demand.
